Sometimes we don't ask for help, even though we need it.
That's why it's OK to offer help to parents when you see them struggling. Often, these families know they need support and intervention, but are afraid or ashamed to ask for it.
If you know a parent that could use a hand, step up and step in.
-
Offer to babysit, even for an hour or two
-
Double up your dinner recipe, and drop off a casserole
-
Offer to run errands, i.e. going to the pharmacy, grocery store, post office. Or, offer to pick items up when you run your own errands
-
Offer to drive their shift of the carpool
-
Pitch in on chores like yard work and home maintenance
-
Share information about referrals for services such as WIC and Healthy Families
-
Extend invitations to play dates, Mom's Day Out groups and other opportunities to spend time with other parents
-
Give gifts that facilitate family time together, such as museum passes, zoo tickets or restaurant gift cards to families who can't afford them
-
Support their children's educational needs by tutoring them and attending school functions
